Advisor’s Lens with Elizabeth Fiore

Advisor’s Lens 🔍
Where we highlight our members’ art historical insights and curatorial expertise.

Advisor’s Lens is an ongoing series that shines a light on APAA members and the expertise they bring to their work—through their art historical knowledge, curatorial experience, and personal connections within the art world.

In this feature, we're spotlighting Elizabeth Fiore, founder of Elizabeth Fiore Art Advisory, an art advisory firm specializing in building private and corporate collections with a focus on contemporary art, informed by deep expertise in 20th-century and earlier works. They offer tailored services in acquisitions and collection management, drawing on a global network and market insight to help clients select pieces that reflect their tastes and retain long-term aesthetic and financial value.

Elizabeth recently visited two exhibitions Ghada Amer: Disobedient Thoughts at Marianne Boesky Gallery and Willem de Kooning: Endless Painting at Gagosian. The experience prompted her to reflect on the artists’ divergent yet parallel approaches to painting.

Amer’s show unravels the patriarchal traditions of painting by turning to embroidery—a medium long cast as “feminine” and peripheral. Denied access to painting studios in 1980s France, Amer embraced thread as rebellion. Her stitched silhouettes explore pleasure, power, and the politics of visibility.

At Gagosian, de Kooning’s late works emphasize the recursive, physical nature of his practice. In fluid gestures and layered forms, his paintings hover between figuration and abstraction—offering a deep engagement with the body and the act of painting itself.

Both artists work in gesture. In motion. In the expressive power of the body. While Amer redefines painting through a feminist lens and de Kooning through a lifelong commitment to form, their work resonates across time and material—reminding us that the body remains a site of radical possibility.

Explore Elizabeth’s selection of highlights from both exhibitions, or visit in person—Ghada Amer is on view through June 14th and Willem de Kooning has been extended through July 11th.
