Anne Varick Lauder, PhD

Dr. Anne Varick Lauder is an Independent Curator and Advisor who provides guidance to collectors, museums and foundations.  With over twenty years of museum and gallery experience, she advises on all aspects of collection care, growth and enrichment.  Services include recommending acquisitions and advising on overall collecting strategy, conducting research, authoring and editing publications as well as curating and project managing exhibitions.

A specialist in works on paper, Dr. Lauder has held curatorial positions in several prominent arts institutions including the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Morgan Library & Museum, the New York Public Library, the National Portrait Gallery and the Louvre.  Curator of the Katrin Bellinger collection from 2007 to 2016, she has been Senior Advisor to the Bern Schwartz Family Foundation since 2013.  She is a Committee Member of the Photographs Acquisition Group (PAG) at the V&A.

Dr. Lauder obtained her PhD at the University of Cambridge in 2004 with a monographic dissertation on the Venetian Mannerist draughtsman, painter and printmaker, Battista Franco (c. 1510-1561).  Her publications have appeared in The Burlington Magazine and elsewhere and include Dessins Italiens du Musée du Louvre: Battista Franco, published to coincide with the first-ever exhibition on the artist, which she guest-curated in 2009.  More recently, she co-curated with Adriano Aymonino, Drawn from the Antique: Artists & the Classical Ideal (Teylers Museum and Sir John Soane’s Museum, 2015), which was nominated for the Berger Prize for British Art History in 2016.
